Ported from a desktop solution that has been in development since 1986, Mathomatic is the first full-fledged symbolic math solution for the iPhone. More than just a calculator, Mathomatic solves algebraic problems, from simple middle-school homework to complex multivariate systems.
Mathomatic features an attractive, easy-to-use interface. Unlike most iPhone calculators, it displays expressions in 2D. Even the most complex equations are easy to read! The bar above the keyboard scrolls so you can view long expressions. The output pane shows the expressions youve entered and clicking one allows you to jump back to it. Trying to work through a difficult problem? Mathomatic shows steps when solving systems of equations, so its easy to see what you missed!
Features:

The application does not support functions, such as cos() and sin(). However, some functions, such as log(), can be computed by solving expressions like 10^x = 100.

excelent, as student this app is get me out of problems quite fast, i hoping updates for trigonometric functions. this app is amazing.

THIS APP WORKS EXCELLENT IN EVERY FEATURE IT PROMISES, BUT IT WOULD BE FINE TO BREAK LIMITATIONS, AND INCORPORATE TRYGONOMETRICAL FUNCTIONS, EXPONENTIAL AND LOGARYTHMICAL ONES. I WOULD BE ALSO FANTASTIC FOR NEXT RELEASES THAT THE APP COULD INTEGRATE EVERY ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSION, NOT JUST POLYNOMES.
I love this, it makes math class so much easier! It does lack a lot of functions though... Would be good if the next update addressed that.
it works as advertised really good stuff. i agree that other functions would be great. trig and log perhaps some matrices high hopes maybe bit since this app is so vlean i want it all.
Hhhoooollllyyyy freaking God!! I was desperately scanning the apps store to find a way to pass a math test that I needed to keep a passing grade in the class and I found this.... You should rename it math-o-magic because I dont think merlin himself could beat this app. It is worth every cent.. (though I would like to be able to do square roots without having to raise to a fraction of a power..)
Some bad moments
I had high hopes for this app. Hey--its got a great logo! But beyond that acknowledgement, its generally clunky & disappointing. For instance, theres no help section. Theres no apparent way to erase equations. I found that once Id built an equation, it remains forever on the electronic chalkboard. DEL and CLR dont have any effect.
In the open area where you enter equations, there is no cursor--you have to assume this is the area to enter data. Oh--it does solve equations, but that option is available elsewhere. iPhone apps should be well-designed & a joy to use. But not this one.
All in all, a clunky & ineloquent app. Ill keep in on the phone for now, & hope that version 1.1 makes major improvements.
Came here ready to write my review and found that the only other review (by PCG) said almost exactly what I was about to write. So... true that. This app is not ready for prime time.
For the developer: (a) please allow clearing the equations screen. (b) please reset the cursor to indicate where Enter is going to happen. (c) add help or an About (should be i, by the way) button that outlines how to use the app. (d) the meaning of the funky down arrow (removes the input panel) is unclear. (e) why is ANS putting the answer (?) in the Enter field? Please indicate the changed role.
I was expected a different type of factoring than the one presented in this app. For example, x^2 -5x -14 should factor into (x-7)(x+2) instead of something funky like (x(x-5))-14.
Very frustrating. Not user friendly. To complicated to just do something like quadradic equation.. Doesnt do quadradic functions!! (that i could find) total waste of my money. I learned my lesson ... Not to buy apps when im desperate!
Droped to 1 star based on no update/bug fixes
This app needs an update. Lack of trig functions hinders its usefulness. Also the factoring is realy odd in some cases. I got this to check my answers in calculus with working derivatives and its help with some but due to reasons stated above this app fell short. Oh yeah and I dont think it has square root key either would be nice. So if I had to do it all again I would wait for the update.
I guess for it being 1.99 it was ok, but I cant do simple polynomials on this thing, I would recommend just doing the work and not depending on this application like im getting ready to do.
